Mike Miyahira is the owner of Business Strategies, a company that provides guidance and advice to family business owners about general business matters, succession planning, family business governance issues and strategic planning. Based in Hilo, his client base extends to all islands. Prior to starting Business Strategies in 1999, Miyahira was a senior lending officer for Bank of Hawaii and helped the bank start its Business Banking Division in the late ‘70’s. He has spent more than two decades financing small businesses in the state of Hawaii.
Miyahira is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Hilo Innovation & Manufacturing Center, a technology development project of the Hawaii Technology Development Corporation of the State of Hawaii. A past president of several chambers of commerce and busines organizations, he is also the immediate past chair of the Trustees for the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection of the Supreme Court of Hawaii where he has served as a trustee for 25-years. He is also a past adjunct professor of Business for the College of Business and Economics at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Miyahira was also a manager and chief financial officer for a land development group that successfully brought their 560-acre project to market on the Big Island.
