Mary Fastenau is a partner at Anthology Marketing Group and president of its Digital Group. She also serves as vice-chairman and secretary of the board for Anthology, the largest integrated marketing and communications company in Hawaii, serving local, regional and national companies. Fastenau has 38 years of experience in newspapers, advertising, communications and the digital marketing industry. She began her career with the Gannett Corporation working for newspapers in Indiana and California. She moved to Hawaii in 1989 and began working at Starr Seigle Communications, co-founding its digital division, StarrTech Interactive, in 1995 after being introduced to the Internet in a Shidler College of Business classroom while she was working on her Executive MBA. She is a pioneer in the digital marketing area in Hawaii with a team that was first to market with many technology innovations. Fastenau was part of the team that formed Anthology in 2007 with the merger of two of the state’s largest communication companies. She is married to John Flanagan, a retired newspaper editor and nonprofit executive, and lives in Hawaii Kai.
